TBC Metalworks bends 304 and 316 stainless steel tube, pipe and solid rod at our shop in Green Bay, Wisconsin. We TIG weld and polish in-house, so stainless parts that need to look good, such as railings and sanitary or dairy equipment, ship finished from one supplier.
Stainless bending capabilities
| Process | Size range |
|---|---|
| CNC mandrel bending | 1/2″ to 3″ OD |
| Roll bending | 1/2″ to 4-1/2″ OD |
| Solid rod | 1/8″ to 2″ |
| End forming | 1″ to 4″ OD |
Why stainless needs a different setup
Stainless steel springs back more than carbon steel and work-hardens as it bends. We account for that in programming and use mandrel and wiper die support to keep thin-wall stainless round and free of wrinkles. If a surface is cosmetic, mark it on the drawing so we can plan tooling and handling around it.
Grades
- 304 stainless: general purpose, good corrosion resistance, common for railings and general equipment.
- 316 stainless: added molybdenum for better resistance to chlorides and harsher washdown environments.
